Food Pantry

The Community Food Pantry at Fairplain Presbyterian Church
distributes between 100-120 bags of food per month. The
pantry receives referrals from the Family Independent Agency,
First Call for Help, and members of the Board of Deacons.
The pantry began in the 1970's as the dream of Kathy Pymn, a
member of the congregation. It has grown into this wonderful
facility with dedication to feeding those in need.
The Board of Deacons oversees the function of the pantry.
They pack bags, and arrange for drivers to deliver the bags to the
elderly.
Food donations to the pantry are received from area churches,
organizations and individuals. Monetary donations are
through the Deacons Fund, FEMA grants, CROP Walk, churches,
private organizations and individuals. All donations are
eligible for Michigan tax credit and can receive matching funds
from some businesses.

Soup
Kitchen
The Soup Kitchen operates from the Salvation
Army building on Michigan Street in downtown Benton Harbor. Since
the early 1980's, Fairplain Presbyterian Church has provided an average of 160 meals on the second Thursday of every
month.
As a very important part of our local mission
work, the Soup Kitchen offers a rewarding experience to see local
mission in progress. Members share in cooking the meal and serving
at the kitchen. Deacons welcome every volunteer who can spare an
hour or two on the second Thursday of the month.
